Firepower undeniably exploded on November 14, 2009 at the MGM grand in Las Vegas. This showcased the Welterweight showdown between the current pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao of Philippines and the current WBO Welterweight Champion Miguel Angel Cotto of Puerto Rico. This fight undeniably meant all for both of the warriors taking on each other. For Pacquiao, this will be a chance to defend his current title as the pound for pound king but more than that, this is an attempt for him to make history as he tries to gain his seventh world title in seven different weight divisions. For Cotto, this fight is a chance for him to prove that he has what it takes to defend his crown and to beat such great opponent.

In the opening round of the bout, Cotto seems to be more aggressive than Pacquiao. He was even the first to connect a jab that made Pacquiao be out of his rhythm. This scenario seemed to continue until the second round but Manny has always an answer for every punch thrown by the Puerto Rican Champion. However, things started to change for Cotto when he tasted the power of the right hand of Pacquiao that made him floored. It was then when the onslaught of Manny continued and it never stopped again. Near the end of the fourth round, the left uppercut unloaded by the pound for pound king floored Cotto for the second time around. In the proceeding rounds, Cotto seemed to have recovered but that was it. He started backpedaling just to avoid the attacks of the swift Pacquiao. From rounds 2 to 11, Manny Pacquiao was all over Cotto and was indeed in complete dominance. It seemed that Cotto can’t do anything about the flurry of punches being released by his adversary. He cannot answer the attacks simply because he was busy defending himself. The end came at the 2:05 mark of the 12th round as Pacquiao pummeled a bloodied Cotto on the ropes, forcing referee Kenny Bayless to halt the carnage. The victory awarded Pacquiao the WBO welterweight crown.

In this win, history has been made by Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao because he is the only boxer in the entire world to have captured seven world titles (including the crown he scored in this victory) in seven different weight divisions. With the win, Pacquiao upped his record to (50-3-2, 38 KOs), further enhancing his already immaculate career. Cotto, meanwhile, suffered his second loss and now carries a (34-2, 27 KOs). Filipinos were again made proud by this achievement of whom they assume to resemble Muhammad Ali. After the fight, it seemed that the audience wants more from Manny and have started shouting “we want Mayweather.” A lot of us hope that this fight will be sealed in a deal also because it will surely be a more explosive one.

After the greatest fights that have ever recorded such as Manny Pacquiao versus David Diaz, Manny Pacquaio versus Oscar Dela Hoya and Manny Pacquaio versus Ricky Hatton, another blockbuster hit will be ventured for the millions of boxing aficionados all over the world. This will showcase the clashing of the current pound-for pound king Manny Pacquiao and the current WBO Welterweight Champion, Miguel Cotto on November 14, 2009(November 15, 2009 in Philippines) at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. This will be a hard hitting match as for both fighters are said to be knockout artists. This is said to be the most exciting fight in the span of 40 years so we better not take our eyes out of this because it is definitely the time to make history and to unleash firepower.

“I will train harder than I have ever trained before because Miguel Cotto will be my toughest test as a professional fighter,” said Pacquiao. “I know Miguel Cotto is an excellent fighter and a great world champion.

“He is strong and smart and that is a dangerous combination for anyone who challenges him. But like every fight, I will not enter the ring alone. My countrymen don’t just give me their support. They also give me their strength, their pride and their love. That is why I must give my all. I fight to win and to give honor to the Philippines.”

“He has fought a lot of tough fighters but never one like me,” said Cotto. “The world will know who the best is when we meet in the ring”

“This fight will be the most exciting and memorable event that Top Rank has promoted in 40 years. I am certain it will take its place as an exciting and action-packed classic such as Hagler vs. Hearns and Ali vs. Frazier III. On November 14, Pacquiao vs. Cotto will join that list of boxing classics.” Many sports analysts say that this will be the hardest and the toughest fight for the reigning pound-for pound king. This will be a perfect test for his career. For Miguel Cotto, this is a rare chance to prove that he has what it takes to beat a great champion like Pacquiao who hasn’t tasted any defeat yet after his hard battles with champions. It has been said that pacquiao versus cotto will definitely take place in the history. A lot say that pacquiao cotto fight will showcase the greatness of boxin once again even if the fight will not be of heavyweight class. Watching pacquio cotto live on payperview will surely bring you right in front of the war between these two magnificent boxers.

Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines, has won six world titles in as many different weight divisions ranging from 112 to 140 pounds. His performance in 2008 was described as “Henry Armstrongesque,” winning world titles at 130 and 135 pounds with victories over Juan Manuel Marquez and David Diaz, respectively, and knocking out and retiring Oscar De La Hoya at 147 pounds to finish the trifecta. This year, he picked up where he left off last year – winning another world title in a new weight division — dealing defending junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton a one-punch second-round knockout on May 2.

Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), from Caguas, Puerto Rico, has sold more tickets to Madison Square Garden in this millennium than any other fighter. He has held a world title every year since 2004. Puerto Rico’s most exciting fighter, Cotto held the WBO junior welterweight crown from 2004-2006, successfully defending it six times before vacating it to capture the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title at the end of 2006, a title he held for nearly as long. He won his second welterweight title in February this year, knocking out Michael Jennings in the fifth round at Madison Square Garden to become the WBO welterweight champion. Notable scalps on Cotto’s belt include Sugar Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Joshua Clottey, Paulie Malignaggi, and Demarcus Corley.

As the world waits for the much anticipated battle, a lot of speculations are being made. But despite of this, the moment of truth will still be inside the ring when these two warriors finally start to exchange blows with each other. Hold the excitement and relive the greatness of boxing once more. Firepower will definitely be unleashed soon.
