Last Sunday (April 19, 2009), the Filipino boxing realm was given the chance to celebrate as the “The Flash and The Furious” exploded action-packed at the historical Araneta Coliseum. The attraction featured the title defense of Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. against the undisputed and undefeated Raul “Cobra” Martinez of San Antonio, Texas and the title challenge of Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria against Ulises “The Filipino Executioner” Solis of Mexico.

Brian Viloria was seen at his best condition as he engaged in a brawl against his Mexican foe. He was aggressive and was able to break the temper of the wounded Mexican in the 11th round. He succeeded in taking the Minimum Weight (108 lbs.) crown from Solis by connecting his right hook counter punch. On the other hand, Nonito Donaire Jr. seemed to double the aggressiveness shown by Viloria. He was able to put down Raul Martinez twice on the opening round of their bout and once in the ff. round. The decisive down happened at the 2:00 mark of the fourth round when his left uppercut that appeared to be a left hook landed on the face of Solis. He also, just like Viloria succeeded in defending his crown.

The said event was indeed a crowd pleaser but more than that, once again showed that Filipino Boxing is back on the map.
